Desktops: Mac LC 550 / Mac Performa 550, 560

History

Replacing the earlier LC 520, the 550 was very much more of the same with the biggest difference being the switch from 25MHz to 33MHz. Naturally this was done in a very cost-cutting way and, rather than designing a new faster system, the Apple designers simply took the motherboard from the Mac Colour Classic II instead (making the LC 550 a great place to get a replacement motherboard for the rare Colour Classic II).

Processor aside the LC 550 offered nothing over the earlier model but a reduction in cost was what really appealed to buyers.
